Yoga Teacher Training in Goa – Dakshinamurti Yoga School

Dakshinamurti Yoga School · Goa · Riverside Forest Campus

Not a training.
A reorientation.

Yoga as a lived, embodied understanding of the body.

"The nervous system learns through contrast, repetition, and safety. Give it all three — consistently — and the body changes."

Observation

Something has been diluted.

Modern yoga has grown into an industry. In that growth, something essential was exchanged — depth for accessibility, inquiry for instruction, practice for performance. This is not a judgment. It is a starting point.

01

Certification without depth

Teacher trainings have become fast-tracks — enough hours to issue a certificate, rarely enough to understand the body or the practice.

02

Performance over inquiry

Asana has become a physical display. The interior process — breath, awareness, nervous system — is often an afterthought.

03

Disconnection from source

Classical texts, therapeutic application, and the slow accumulation of embodied understanding have been replaced by trend cycles.

Method

Rooted in what
actually works.

01

Classical Texts as Ground

Teaching draws from Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Yoga Sutras, and traditional Āyurvedic anatomy — not as scripture, but as maps of the body that have survived centuries of verification.

02

Alignment-Based Teaching

Precise structural alignment is not aesthetic — it is functional. Each posture is understood as a relationship between bone, breath, and the nervous system's response to load.

03

Breath as the Primary Tool

Prāṇāyāma is not a separate practice appended to movement. Breath informs every transition, every hold, every release. It is the medium through which the body is educated.

04

Slow, Meditative Movement

Speed hides compensation. The practice moves at the pace of awareness — slow enough to feel what is actually happening, rather than what we assume is happening.

Core Methodology

Neuro-Alignment
System

NAS is not a style. It is a framework for understanding why certain bodies cannot access certain postures — and what must change before they can. NAS is the basis of how we teach, observe, and work with every student.

The central premise: most movement limitations are not structural. They are neurological. The brain has learned patterns of protection, bracing, and compensation. The work is to retrain those patterns through careful, supported, progressive exposure.

Nervous System Retraining

Habituated bracing and protective tension are addressed at their root — the brain's prediction of threat. Sustained, safe input gradually updates these predictions.

Hands-On Alignment

Touch is information. Precise manual adjustments communicate directly to the proprioceptive system, creating a bodily understanding that verbal instruction alone cannot produce.

Supported Movement

Ropes, belts, blocks, and bolsters are precision tools — each creates a specific mechanical environment that the nervous system can learn from.

Brain–Body Communication

Chronic pain, instability, and poor mobility are symptoms of degraded sensory maps. NAS practice restores the density and accuracy of these internal representations.

"His work did not emerge from tradition alone, but from observing where traditional instruction fails in real bodies — and staying with those questions until something more precise emerged."

The Space

5 Acres · Riverside · Canacona, Goa
  • Open-air practice hall with river views
  • Coconut, mango & cashew food forest
  • Medicinal herb garden
  • Seasonal organic meals from the land
  • Riverside morning practice space

Learning does not
end at the mat.

Five acres of land along a river in Goa. Not a resort. Not a retreat center in the conventional sense.

The property functions as a food forest — coconut, mango, cashew, banana, and medicinal plants that have been tended for years. Students spend time here not as guests, but as participants. This is not a backdrop to the training — it is part of the training.

The relationship between how we inhabit a posture and how we inhabit a place is not metaphorical. Observation, patience, and attentiveness practiced in the forest carry directly into the practice hall. Located in Goa, India, Dakshinamurti Yoga School offers residential yoga teacher training in a riverside forest environment.

Two paths. One direction. Both begin with a willingness to be changed by what you learn.

For Whom

This is specific.

Dakshinamurti is built around a particular kind of student. Not a demographic — a disposition. Many who come here have already trained elsewhere, yet still lack clarity in how to work with real bodies.

The serious practitioner

Someone with years of consistent practice who has begun to sense the edges of what they know. Who is curious about what lies beneath the surface of the form.

The teaching teacher

A qualified yoga teacher who feels the gap between what they were taught and what their students actually need. Who wants to understand, not just to instruct.

The disillusioned practitioner

Someone who has moved through commercial yoga spaces and found them wanting. Who recognises the inflation but hasn't lost faith in the practice itself.

The body-curious

Those with a genuine interest in how the nervous system, structure, and awareness intersect — regardless of how many years they've been on the mat.

This work is not for everyone. It is for those who are willing to stay with what is real.

Founder

Vipul Kumar

Founder & Lead Teacher · Dakshinamurti Yoga School

Vipul Ji has practiced for over a decade — not across studios, but in depth. His work has been defined by an unusual willingness to stay with questions longer than is comfortable, and to change his understanding when the body demanded it.

The Neuro-Alignment System emerged not from study alone, but from years of observation — watching where bodies compensate, where breath becomes shallow, where effort is misdirected. The framework developed slowly, tested against the reality of individual bodies rather than against any ideology.

His work did not emerge from tradition alone, but from observing where traditional instruction fails in real bodies — and staying with those questions until something more precise emerged.

Common Questions

What people
ask us.

Where is Dakshinamurti Yoga School located?

The school is based on a five-acre riverside property in Canacona, South Goa, India. The campus is a working food forest — coconut, mango, cashew, and medicinal plants. All residential programs are held on-site.

What is the Neuro-Alignment System (NAS)?

NAS is the core teaching methodology of the school. It is a framework for understanding movement limitations as primarily neurological rather than structural — and for retraining the nervous system through precise, supported, progressive practice. It draws on classical yoga, functional anatomy, and direct observation of how the brain governs the body's movement patterns.

Is the 200 Hour TTC Yoga Alliance certified?

Yes. Dakshinamurti Yoga School is a registered Yoga Alliance RYS 200 institution. Graduates of the 200 Hour Teacher Training are eligible to register as RYT 200 with Yoga Alliance upon completion.

What is included in the residential program?

All programs are fully residential. Accommodation, organic meals, daily practice sessions, and all teaching materials are included. Students live on the forest campus for the duration of the training. Fees and exact inclusions are provided upon application.

Do I need prior teaching experience to apply?

The 200 Hour program is open to serious practitioners without prior teaching experience. The 300 Hour is designed for those who hold an existing 200 Hour qualification. What matters more than credentials is the quality of your attention to practice and your willingness to question what you already know.

How does the application process work?

Write to us directly at apply@dakshinamurtiyogaschool.com. Tell us about your practice, why this training, and what you are hoping to understand better. We respond within five working days. Fees, dates, and program details are shared at that stage.

What makes this different from other yoga teacher trainings in India?

Most teacher trainings are structured around a fixed curriculum delivered to a group. Here, the Neuro-Alignment System means that teaching is constantly adjusted to what individual bodies actually reveal in practice. The pace is slower, the observation more precise, and the framework more rigorous than most 200 or 300 hour programs. It is not designed for volume — it is designed for depth.
